A Hubdoc replacement for bookkeepers — not another suite
Yes, Hubdoc is really gone. Xero retired it on May 8, 2026 and replaced it with storage-only Xero Files. Auto-fetch, OCR, and publishing rules were switched off. If you ran your practice on Hubdoc's free tier, you now need a new home for the client-document workflow: collect → sort → chase → hand off to the ledger.

- You want practice management anyway (workflows, tasks, team): look at Double (excellent, priced per client — roughly $300/mo at 30 clients) or Financial Cents ($19–99+/user; no Xero integration).
- You process high volumes and want deep extraction: Dext ($34+/mo, tiered/credited, firm-oriented) or AutoEntry ($13–469 credit packs).
- You're a business owner doing your own books: Xero's new Smart Document Capture (free, still uneven between regions) or an owner-focused tool like Dockett.
- You're a bookkeeper — solo or with a partner, any client count — who wants the document side only — one dump link per client, the pile sorted by month/vendor, missing documents chased, flat price: that's Sorted Receipts — $29/mo up to 30 clients ($59 to 100, $99 unlimited), documents never metered, no per-user fees.
